Yes, there is a permanently free plan at $0 and Descript's pricing FAQ says no credit card is needed. It includes 1 hour of media per month, 100 one-time AI credits, 5GB of storage and limited AI tools. The catch is that free exports are capped at 720p and are not watermark-free, so it suits testing and internal drafts rather than published work.

As shown on descript.com/pricing on 21 August 2026, Hobbyist is $16 per person per month billed annually ($24 month-to-month), Creator is $24 annually ($35 month-to-month), and Business is $50 annually ($65 month-to-month). Descript advertises a discount for paying annually — the gap works out at roughly 23–33% depending on the tier. Enterprise is custom-priced, and extra media hours or AI credits can be bought as top-ups on Creator and Business only.

Media hours count every minute of footage you import or record, whether or not you transcribe it. AI credits count usage of AI features like Underlord, Studio Sound, Green Screen, Eye Contact and generated media. Plans give 1, 10, 30 and 40 media hours a month on Free, Hobbyist, Creator and Business, with 100 one-time, 400, 800 and 1,500 credits respectively. Creator and Business can buy top-ups; Free and Hobbyist cannot and must wait for the next cycle.

Yes on the paid plans, which export watermark-free at 1080p on Hobbyist or 4K on Creator and Business, and include the stock media library and AI voices. The free plan's watermark and 720p cap make it unsuitable for deliverables. If you clone a voice or generate avatars, check Descript's terms and get consent from the person being cloned before using it commercially.
