HireKey is a job-search workspace for people applying to roles in tech. It compares your resume with a job description, tailors the resume to that job, drafts a cover letter, runs AI voice interview practice and tracks every application. There are two plans: Free at $0, and Premium at $39 a month.
We went through HireKey's homepage, pricing section, Terms, Privacy Policy, data security page, AI policy, methodology and About page on 12 October 2026, and every price and limit below links to the vendor page it came from. Our read: the Free plan is specific enough to judge the product on, because every feature carries a published monthly number, and the privacy pages name their providers and say what is and is not stored. The catch is on the paid side. There is one tier, no annual price and no refunds, so the $39 is a month-by-month decision. You also need a Google account, the only sign-in the Terms list.
HireKey at a glance
HireKey is an AI job-search tool built around a recruiter's view of a resume. You add a job and your master resume, and it shows where your experience fits the role, where the wording is weak and where a real gap exists.
| Question | Short answer |
|---|---|
| Plans | Free at $0 a month; Premium at $39 a month in US dollars, billed monthly |
| Free allowance | 5 tailoring sessions and 2 live voice sessions a month; full list in the pricing table |
| Sign-in | Google only |
| Refunds | None, unless the law requires one |

What is HireKey used for?
Three jobs: deciding whether a role is worth applying to, rewriting your resume for that role without inventing anything, and rehearsing the interview. The homepage feature tour ties every tool to a saved job, so the resume, letter, research and practice for one opening stay together.
Role-fit analysis
Paste a job description and HireKey compares it with your documented experience. The methodology page says it scores job alignment and resume effectiveness separately, and sorts gaps as critical, manageable or minor. That separation is the idea we like most on paper: a wording problem and a missing-experience problem need different fixes. HireKey itself says neither score predicts an employer's decision.
Resume tailoring
Tailoring rewrites vague bullets so your contribution is easier to see. Original and tailored wording sit side by side, and you approve each change. HireKey's FAQ draws the line plainly: tailoring should not invent qualifications or turn a contributing role into ownership.
Interview preparation and live voice coaching
Each job gets one recruiter-screen question set and one hiring-manager set, or you can add your own questions. In a voice session the coach asks follow-ups based on your answers, gives feedback during practice and writes a debrief. You can type instead of speaking, or export the questions and answer guidance as a PDF.
Tracker, cover letters and research briefs
The tracker shows applications in table or Kanban view with stages, deadlines, notes and follow-ups, and it is unlimited on both plans. Cover letters are drafted from your background and the job. Company research briefs give you context before an interview, though the AI Usage Policy warns that AI can return outdated company facts. One Premium-only line, "Pipeline Intelligence and Application Insights", is listed with no further detail anywhere on the site. Do not upgrade for it until HireKey says what it is.
Free resume checker
Separate from the app, a free recruiter resume review needs no account. It reads your resume on its own, not against a job, and reports on positioning, evidence, scan visibility and seniority signals. It gives no ATS score.
Who HireKey is for, and who should skip it
HireKey's FAQ names engineers, product managers, designers, data professionals, marketers, sales staff and operators applying for competitive roles. The recruiter's view has a named source: the About page says co-founder Nela Davis spent 10 years in tech recruiting, including at Microsoft, Amazon and Stripe. It suits candidates sending many applications with no replies, people who know their work but explain it poorly out loud, and anyone running several applications at once.
Skip HireKey, or stay on Free, if:
- You want an auto-apply bot. The Terms say HireKey does not submit applications for you.
- You do not use Google. Google sign-in is the only login the Terms list.
- You apply outside US-style tech hiring. On Product Hunt the co-founder said the recruiter view comes from US tech and is not validated for every market.
- You need accent coaching. The same reply says the coach rates content and structure, not accent or fluency.
- You need a SOC 2 report. The data security page says HireKey has none, and no formal bug bounty.
How much does HireKey cost?
HireKey has two plans and two add-on packs. The address hirekey.io/pricing returned a 404 on 12 October 2026, so the table comes from the pricing section on the HireKey homepage, cross-checked against sections 5 and 6 of the HireKey Terms of Service.
USD, checked 12 October 2026, from HireKey pricing (hirekey.io/#pricing)
| Plan | Price | What you get | Free-tier stop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 / month | 5 resume tailoring sessions, 5 interview practice sessions, 2 live voice coaching sessions, 5 cover letters and 5 company research briefs per month; unlimited application tracking | Stops at each monthly allowance. Credit packs cannot be bought on Free. |
| Premium | $39 / month, billed monthly | 50 tailoring sessions, 50 practice sessions, 10 live voice sessions per month; unlimited cover letters and research briefs; unlimited tracking; Pipeline Intelligence and Application Insights | Paid. Upgrade in Settings > Billing after sign-in; renews monthly until cancelled. |
| Voice credit pack | $9.99 | 5 extra live voice coaching sessions | Premium only to buy; credits do not expire |
| Resume credit pack | $9.99 | 15 extra resume tailoring sessions | Premium only to buy; credits do not expire |
This is a flat monthly subscription with session allowances, not seats or minutes. Voice is the scarce allowance: Premium gives ten times Free's tailoring and practice sessions but only five times its voice sessions, and a pack works out at roughly $2 a voice session.
The credit rules are kinder than the refund rule. According to the Terms, purchased credits stay usable after you drop to Free, where your included allowance is used first. Delete your account, though, and unused credits are forfeited. Payments are nonrefundable unless the law requires otherwise, and cancelling keeps Premium until the paid month ends.
No annual, team or student price is published. The co-founder's Product Hunt post of 11 October 2026 mentions one free month of Premium as an offer for the product's debut there. That offer is not shown on hirekey.io, so go by what checkout shows.
Is HireKey free?
Yes. The Free plan is $0 a month with no subscription, and it covers the monthly allowances in the table above. The Terms say using Free does not authorise a charge; Premium starts only when you upgrade. The resume checker is free as well and needs no account.
How HireKey handles your resume and voice
The HireKey Privacy Policy (effective 27 September 2026) lists Google account details, resume text, job descriptions, contacts, notes, interview answers, billing status and device data among what it collects. Two entries below deserve a second look before you paste in a resume: the AI provider and the analytics.
- AI provider. App features run on OpenAI, and your name and contact details can travel with a resume. HireKey says it does not train models on your content.
- Voice. Your browser's speech service turns speech into text, and Microsoft's speech service voices the coach, per the provider table on HireKey's data security page. Raw audio is not saved as files.
- Transcripts. The full conversation is not stored on HireKey's servers. It stays in your browser tab until you sign out or save the debrief, so download it first.
- Analytics. PostHog session replay, when enabled, can capture visible resume and job content outside voice coaching.
- Employers. HireKey says it does not sell personal data or give candidate data to employers or recruiters.
- Deletion. Requests are handled within seven days for systems HireKey controls.
HireKey works only on material you upload about yourself. We found no sign of it collecting personal data about third parties.
Where HireKey's own pages disagree
None of these six mismatches changes the price, but the Premium button and the "Unlimited" label both affect what you think you are buying.
- The menu links to "Pricing", but /pricing is a 404. Prices live only in the homepage section and the Terms.
- The Premium card's button reads "Get started for free" although Premium costs $39 a month; the small print says you upgrade later in Settings.
- Premium lists cover letters and briefs as "Unlimited", while the data security page describes rate limits and the Terms say limits depend on your plan. Expect fair-use caps.
- The homepage line "10 years of tech recruiting experience at Microsoft / Amazon / Stripe" describes Nela Davis's career, per the About page, not the company's.
- The homepage FAQ says the free checker processes your resume on your device. The checker, hosted on a separate domain, adds that it sends anonymous counts such as word and bullet totals to HireKey.
- A Chrome extension for capturing jobs appears as "coming soon" only in the Product Hunt post. It is not a current feature.
How HireKey compares with other tools reviewed here
We have not reviewed another resume-tailoring tool yet, so these comparisons cover tools that overlap with one part of HireKey's job.
HireKey vs Sayble, the real-time conversation copilot. Sayble listens to a live call and suggests what to say next. HireKey works before the call: you rehearse, then speak on your own. That matters, because HireKey's Terms ask candidates to follow employer rules on AI help, and many employers forbid a live prompter in a real interview. Our Sayble review (checked 30 September 2026) shows a Free plan of one 5-minute session and Pro at $24.99 a month for 12 months at a founder rate, then $39.99.
HireKey vs Ancher, the searchable knowledge base. Ancher saves articles, videos and posts and finds them by meaning, which suits building a long-term file on a target company. HireKey generates a research brief inside the job record, ready for prep. Our Ancher review (checked 12 October 2026) shows a Free plan with 100 credits a month and paid plans from $5 a month billed yearly.
